Puppy Service Dog Training Online and In-Person

We offer In-person and online service dog training in Honolulu, HI. With our training, expect to learn everything you need to know about passing the Public Access Test and training your own Service Dog. Unlimited Public Access Tests are included, and those who live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu can practice the test in Kailua.

This course is perfect for owners who have a dog that is proficient with the obedience commands: heel, sit, down, stay, come, and leave-it commands.

• If your dog lacks manners and a solid foundation in obedience training, please enroll in our in-person dog training or our online  Doggie Boot Camp first.
• If you have a puppy less than 14 weeks old, please enroll in the Puppy Makeover before starting the Doggie Boot Camp.

What’s Included in This Training for Service Dogs

This course will cover the types of Service Dogs and the laws that protect them in the United States, especially the new rules by the Department of Transportation (DOT) that treats Psychiatric Service Dogs the same as other Service Dogs and no longer allows Emotional Support Dogs and support animals to fly on commercial airlines.

This course is designed to help you put in the consistent training and systematic socialization that is needed for your dog to become a Service Dog that will be able to reliably perform their disability-related task(s) in all types of settings and that a busy and crowded airplane will not trigger unsafe behaviors. This course will let you log the recommended 120 hours of training, including 30 hours in public settings, to pass the Public Access Test. Volunteer puppy raisers play a crucial role in the early stages of service dog training, often supported by organizations like CCI with resources such as manuals and community support.

The training process for a service dog is extensive and typically spans 1-2 years. It often begins with specially bred puppies that are raised by puppy raisers in a supportive environment during their early developmental stages.

The dog’s temperament is crucial; a suitable service dog candidate should be calm, confident, and eager to work. Assessing a dog’s temperament before beginning service dog training is essential to ensure the dog can thrive in chaotic environments and effectively support their handler. Training alone cannot compensate for a dog’s intrinsic disposition.

The Service Dog Training Process

The training process for a service dog is extensive and typically spans 1-2 years. It involves basic obedience training, socialization, and specialized task training. The course will help you teach your dog at least 1 task to assist you with your disability to become a service animal.
